Back in September, our team spent a day out at the Alkane–Costerfield operations (formerly Mandalay Resources) and it gave us a real insight into the work happening just outside our city.
We started above ground before heading below the surface, where the team walked us through the safety steps that make underground access possible. It was a chance to see how the mine runs day to day – from the type of work their crews do, to how they manage water treatment, to the systems that keep a 24/7 operation moving.
They also shared a short presentation about the broader picture. The site employs around 250 people, produces both gold and antimony and is the only antimony-producing mine in Australia. With their recent merger with Alkane – now fully Australian-owned – they spoke about the importance of staying connected to the region. Over $14 million has already been invested within the City of Greater Bendigo, along with ongoing support for events, grants and community organisations.
We’re pleased to have Alkane–Costerfield continuing with us as partners. Their ongoing support strengthens both Be.Bendigo and our wider business community and we’re looking forward to the year ahead.
