On Friday 22 August, Be.Bendigo hosted our quarterly Partner Breakfast, welcoming our partners to Red Energy Arena Bendigo for a morning of connection, collaboration, and forward-looking insights. These breakfasts have become an important touchpoint in our business calendar — a chance to bring leaders together, share stories, and explore the opportunities shaping our region.
This session featured a keynote from David Elliott, CEO of Red Energy Arena, who brought more than two decades of leadership experience in sport and entertainment to the room. David has held senior executive roles with the AFL and the West Coast Eagles, where he played a key part in driving record membership growth and spearheading the redevelopment of Marvel Stadium. His deep experience in community engagement and large-scale venue management provided an invaluable perspective for our audience.
David shared the Arena’s recent strategic reset, which places the customer-first approach at the foundation of everything they do — from daily operations to long-term planning. This renewed focus on customer and community needs is designed to build stronger relationships, increase satisfaction, and create meaningful opportunities for growth.
He also offered a first look at the Arena’s redevelopment project, set to commence in September. The upgrade will see the addition of a new annex with two brand new courts and upgraded facilities, creating even greater capacity for sporting and community events. Attendees were particularly excited to hear how these changes will expand Bendigo’s ability to attract major events and foster grassroots participation at the same time.
Beyond bricks and mortar, David emphasised the role of digital innovation and new marketing strategies in the Stadium’s future growth.
What stood out throughout David’s presentation was his passion for community. He reminded us that stadiums and arenas are not just facilities — they are gathering places where sport, culture, and connection come to life. His commitment to building a sustainable, customer-first future resonated strongly with our partners.
These breakfasts are about more than just listening; they are about learning from leaders and taking away ideas that can be adapted into different industries and businesses. Feedback from our partners shows that sessions like this spark valuable conversations within their own teams and often lead to new innovations.
We extend our sincere thanks to Red Energy Arena and David Elliott for hosting us, and to our partners for showing up, supporting one another, and strengthening the Bendigo business community.
