February After 5: Community in Action at Bendigo Foodshare

Our February After 5 gave members the opportunity to see firsthand how food relief operates at scale in our region.

We gathered at Bendigo Foodshare’s new warehouse in Golden Square, a purpose-built facility that opened in August 2024 and now supports around 15,500 people each week across Central Victoria. While many in the room were familiar with Foodshare’s work, walking through the warehouse brought a clearer understanding of what that number really represents.

The space is practical, well planned and designed for growth. Deliveries move through efficiently, volunteers sort and pack with care and agencies across the region rely on what leaves this site each day. It’s a strong operational model, backed by clear systems and steady leadership.

The warehouse sits on a two-hectare site on the corner of Belle Vue Road and Breen Street, which will also become the future home of Bendigo’s Community Food Hub. On the night, the team shared the masterplan and what’s ahead, outlining a long-term vision that responds to increasing demand while strengthening community infrastructure.

Thank you to Bendigo Foodshare for hosting and for sharing your work so openly. Thank you to Bendigo Brewing for providing refreshments on the evening, to Vin du Van for supplying the wine and to Bendigo Photos for capturing the night.
