Advocacy in Action: Advancing Business Interests Locally and Beyond – June 2025 Highlights

At Be.Bendigo, our commitment to advocacy is grounded in the belief that a thriving business community starts with strong representation. Our team has continued to amplify the voice of Greater Bendigo’s businesses – fostering partnerships, engaging in key policy conversations and driving visibility for our region across multiple platforms.

Strengthening Economic & International Connections

CEO Hayley Tibbett joined a roundtable with the Indonesian Delegation, including Jani Mediawati Sasanti, Consul for Economic Affairs in Victoria, to explore opportunities for closer trade and investment ties between Bendigo and Indonesia. This meeting marks a step forward in building international relationships that support local economic development.

In line with our strategic goals, we also progressed discussions with the Ai Group on future collaboration opportunities that will benefit Be.Bendigo members, particularly in the areas of innovation, skills development, and industry growth.

A Strong Voice in the Media

Our recent media appearances continue to ensure that business issues are front and centre in the public conversation. Hayley spoke to:

  • WIN News, providing commentary on the Victorian State Budget and industrial development opportunities in East Bendigo
  • Gold Central Victoria, promoting our June Social Media Workshop Series and its value for small business digital capability
  • ABC Radio, responding to retail trends and changes affecting the local business landscape, including the recent statement by Myer

Supporting the Arts as a Driver of Economic Growth

Be.Bendigo was present at the announcement of the Bendigo Art Gallery redevelopment, scheduled to commence in early 2026. This significant investment affirms the Gallery’s role as a major economic and cultural contributor, with event planning already underway to maintain tourism and visitation during the closure period. We’ll continue to advocate for activation strategies that support local business through the transition.

Member Engagement & Local Representation

Direct engagement with our members and regional partners remains at the heart of our work. Recent highlights include:

  • The second Coffee and Conversation session, creating space for members to share challenges and insights
  • Ongoing one-on-one meetings with business owners and leaders
  • CEO meetings with local partners to explore collaborative opportunities
  • Advocacy discussions with Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, focused on key business needs and regional challenges

These engagements, formal and informal, demonstrate our continued focus on building a stronger, more connected and supported business community across Greater Bendigo.
