Friday May 9, Be.Bendigo hosted its quarterly Partner Breakfast at Red Energy Arena, proudly presented in partnership with Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine. The session brought together business leaders and regional stakeholders for an engaging conversation led by Will Wettenhall, Environment and Community Manager at Fosterville. The breakfast highlighted the evolving role of the mining sector in shaping a more sustainable, community-driven future, not just for the industry but for the wider Bendigo region.
Inside the Fosterville Approach
Will Wettenhall gave attendees a compelling look into what responsible mining looks like at Fosterville. With a focus on world-class environmental stewardship, the session unpacked the mine’s strategic efforts in advanced water treatment, tailings management, air quality monitoring, and noise reduction. These aren’t just box-ticking exercises, they’re evidence of a business deeply committed to its environmental obligations and future legacy. Beyond the environmental lens, Will also delved into Fosterville’s broader philosophy: We Listen, We Care, We Act. It’s a mindset that drives meaningful community engagement, support for local businesses, and a respectful and proactive approach to working with Traditional Owners.
Why These Events Matter
Our Partner Breakfast series is more than just a morning catch-up—it’s a unique space where leaders gain insights, challenge assumptions, and walk away with practical ideas to implement in their own organisations. For many in the room, the key takeaway wasn’t just about mining. It was about how principles of accountability, innovation, and stakeholder collaboration can (and should) be embedded across all sectors. Attendees told us they were inspired by how Fosterville’s approach to environmental and community strategy could apply to their own industries, sparking ideas for stronger sustainability initiatives, internal leadership development, and deeper local partnerships.
Looking Ahead
We extend our sincere thanks to Will Wettenhall for his leadership, to the Fosterville Gold Mine team for their ongoing support as Platinum Partners, and to Red Energy Arena for their exceptional hospitality.
As we continue to support our partners with events that inform, inspire, and build stronger business ecosystems, we are reminded of the power of connection and knowledge-sharing. Our Partner Breakfasts are a space to listen, to learn, and most importantly, to act.
Last Friday, Women Connect x Be.Bendigo hosted an unforgettable International Women’s Day celebration, bringing together a room full of professionals, business owners, and community leaders to engage in powerful conversations and meaningful connections.
The Banquet Room at The Capital quickly filled with attendees eager to hear from three generations of leaders as they took the stage to share their stories of resilience, ambition, and the realities of leadership. Margot Falconer, Kath Bolitho, and Georgia Rogers each brought unique perspectives on navigating challenges, embracing opportunities, and the importance of lifting others as they climb.
With Nick Carter as our MC, the conversation flowed effortlessly, balancing personal experiences with professional insights. The honesty, vulnerability, and humour woven throughout their discussion made the session deeply engaging and relatable. The audience was captivated, nodding along in agreement, laughing at the shared realities of leadership, and soaking in every piece of wisdom shared.
This year’s theme, “March Forward,” set the tone for a discussion that resonated far beyond the event. It was a call to action to acknowledge the past, navigate the present, and actively shape the future.
Margot Falconer reflected on the progress made over the decades, recalling moments when she had to push through barriers as the first woman in various leadership roles.
Kath Bolitho brought an unapologetic and bold approach to change-making, challenging traditional business models and expectations.
Georgia Rogers, representing the next generation of leadership, shared her experiences of mentorship, learning, and adapting in an ever-changing professional landscape.
The discussion left many attendees feeling energised and empowered, reminded that every step forward contributes to greater change.
Beyond the panel, there were so many moments that made the day special. The conversations over afternoon tea, where strangers became collaborators. The quiet moments of reflection as women considered their own leadership journeys. And of course, the buzz of networking drinks at MacKenzie Quarters, where connections continued to flourish.
This wasn’t just another panel discussion, it was an opportunity to learn, be inspired, and take action.
This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors, The KH Studio & Jenny’s ELC, who share our passion for empowering women in business and leadership.
We are also deeply grateful to:
Our panelists, for their honesty, wisdom, and generosity in sharing their stories.
Nick Carter, for his engaging facilitation of the discussion.
The Capital, for providing a beautiful venue that set the perfect backdrop for such an important conversation.
Carmen Bunting, for capturing the event and ensuring these moments will be remembered.
And most importantly, everyone who attended
The conversations that started in that room don’t end here, there’s still so much to discuss, reflect on, and take action toward.
